Jan 07. My KITT conversion is finally getting the much needed attention to the chassis and suspension. I went with Hotchkis subframe connectors and lower control arms. Has stainless steel brake lines front and back. A PowerTrax differential with Moser 28 spline axles and 3:42 gears. I installed Energy suspension polyurethane bushings throughout the front and rear of the car (A-Arms, Sway Bars, Trail Bar, Panhard Bar, Transmission Mount, and Torque Arm). New Springs and E-Brake cables also dressed the underside. Painted the whole underside with chassis black.

Feb - April 07. Well it is now time to work on the motor for the car. The orginal car came with a 2.8l v6. Which is a nice and solid motor but I wanted more power. Below is a picture of what the car looks like with the 2.8l in it. As you can see the engine bay still has the original red paint from the car.

Feb - April 07. Now on the the new motor. I found a used motor out of an 88 Pontiac GTA. It was a 350 TPI with all the accessories in tact. Which was great, considering I would have to change out a lot of things from the engine bay. The pictures below are what it looked like when I brought it home. As you can see from the teardown it had sludge building up inside. I chose to do a complete rebuild of the motor anyway so this did not bother me. The motor also came with a 700r-4 transmission. This will also be rebuilt.

Feb - April 07. I had a local transmission shop completely go through and rebuild the tranny. They put a TransGo shift kit in it and gave me a welded torque converter. I also had Midstates Machine out of Des Moines, IA do the motor rebuild. They did a terrific job. Complete teardown, bore it out, new seals, new oil pump, Crane Cams camshaft, and hydraulic lifters. As you can see from the pictures the tranny and motor look great. I went with Edelbrock aluminum heads, harden pushrods, and roller rockers.

Feb - April 07. Before this motor was able to be put in the car, the engine bay must be taken care of. I prepped the engine bay for paint and then painted it the same color as the car. The K-member was painted chassis black to match the underside of the car. I also put new steering components in including a new gear box.

Feb - April 07. The motor and tranny are finally dropped in the car. I was very pleased with the way it looks. The header system is from Edlebrock. It includes the headers and the y-pipe that goes back to the cat converter. I cleaned and polished the intake and runners, painted the valve covers and brackets for the accessories. Added a 160amp alternator, radiator, distributor, accell coil, taylor plug wires, and bosch Plat+4 plugs.

May 07. Well I finally finished the motor. It runs great. The suspension upgrades really have helped the way the car handles with the new motor. I tried to restore this back to as much of a factory look as I could. Everything is painted and polished. After I put the motor in, I found out that I needed a new computer chip to run it better, so I ordered one from Fast Chips.

Here are a couple of pictures after all the work is done and everything is buttoned up on the car. I am happy with the stance of the car, and extremely happy with the power and handling of the car.

We're not done yet.... (Probably never will be. Just keep on adding the gadgets)
